  At the dawn of the 00's,while suffering the turgid aural indignities of New Weird America shuck & jive, I said somewhere in print that I'd get back in the game if I could find a band that balanced the shambolic pop thrust of Swell Maps with the collapsing panic/chaos of SPK. In 2005, Times New Viking came close enough.The organ wheezed and croaked, the drums snapped with sickness and a guitar hacked through it all like a serrated, gangrenous knife.On top of this was a frantic male/female vocal drama. I was sold. The band went on to record a brace of albums & eps, were beloved by Yo La Tengo & The Clean + smoked their way through the UK a few times. But this got the ball rolling.
